Do Vitamins Really Work?

Posted in Supplements | Comment »

A reader of Maxim submitted a a question to the magazine asking “Do vitamins really do anything?”  Well, they actually they do. In this article I’ll discuss the importance of taking mutli-vitamins and what they can do for your body.

The article from Maxim magazine adds: It would be best if we could get all our nutrients from our food,” Dr. Lamm adds that certain multivitamins work as effective preventive measure (albeit one with limit “It doesn’t cure cancer”). The doc even has a favorite: “I take omega-3′s” Yeah, those omega-2s totally blow.

So what makes taking multi-vitamins so important?

For the human body to perform at its maximum potential, it must be fed a vast and complex array of vital nutrients. Becoming deficient in just one of these essential vitamins or minerals breaks down the metabolic pathway that produces optimum efficiency and performance declines. Not good! Daily consumption of a high-potency multivitamin/multimineral formula may help ensure the presence of essential cofactors necessary for thousands of metabolic reactions.

When should you take multivitamin?

Take your multivitamin first thing in the morning, and IMMEDIATELY after your weight training, take one multivitamin/mineral plus your extra antioxidants. On the days you don’t train, take only one serving of vitamin/mineral formula in the morning, and in the afternoon take your antioxidant protection.”

What’s the best multi-vitamin?

There are so many multi-vitams to choose from, my favorite is AST Sport Science’s. It has tons of B-vitamins and a lot of minerals. It’s the most complete multi-vitamine for its price and it was designed to have a regular weight-lifters goals in mind – to replenish what the body expends during intense exercise.
